Faculty Spotlight: Jonathan Maron

Published October 16, 2017 in Notes

As I’m sure you already know, I’m incredibly proud of the teaching faculty that we’ve assembled here at SBL. Our mission is simple: to provide you with the ongoing support and guidance you’ll need to really accelerate your bass playing. You might have a long-standing connection with the bass, or maybe your life was changed by the simple act of playing in a band… wherever you’re coming from we’re here to give you the opportunity to study, learn and interact with some of the best bass players in the world from the comfort of your own home.

At this point I want to introduce a brand-new faculty member to the SBL team… the phenomenal Jonathan Maron!

For most of us, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite and Dance Of The Drunken Master by New York’s Groove Collective served as our first introduction to Jonathan’s insanely heavy bass grooves. The great news is, you’re now going to be able to learn directly from Jonathan, as we've released his first ever course into the SBL course library, “The Science of Groove”… check out the trailer, it’s awesome…

A self-confessed bass geek, Jonathan grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, before settling in downtown Brooklyn. His muscular funk tone and inventive R&B rhythms have anchored the Groove Collective’s colossal jams since the early 90s.

Jonathan can also be heard on almost 200 records ranging widely in style. He has performed with Meshell Ndegeocello, Tupac Shakur, Shujaat Khan, Dave Douglas, Jewel, India Arie, Donny McCaslin, Anoushka Shankar and Kurt Rosenwinkel… I’m sure you get the idea! ;)

Ready to find out more? Here’s some killer video for you…

Wondering what to do now?

As always, see you in the shed...

Scott :)
