Garry Jackson

Garry spent his formative years in Coalville, Leicestershire, and took up the double bass at the age of 8. In 1996 he was awarded a bursary from The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation and began his study with world-renowned bassist Herbie Flowers. He moved north in 1997 to study at Leeds College of Music, gaining a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies. He was awarded the Fred and Ethel Tolsen Memorial prize for strings by Leeds College of Music in 2000, also being a finalist in the Perrier Young Jazz Awards as part of the Chris Isaac Quartet.

He has worked professionally since 2000, performing with the likes of Guthrie Govan, Adrian Ingram, Julian Joseph, Barry Kernfeld, Jim Mullen, Mark Nightingale, Dave Newton, Dave O Higgins, Gary Potter, Don Rendell, Martin Shaw, John Surman, Bobby Wellins and Roy Williams.
