The Fretting Hand, Pulse & Reading Tablature
Summary
While your plucking hand is the ‘engine’ that drives the sound coming from your instrument providing rhythm and dynamics, it’s your fretting hand that acts as the ‘steering wheel,’ choosing the right notes and directing you where to go.
In this set of lessons, we’re going to focus on proper fretting-hand technique, but also introduce the concept of ‘pulse’ and how it’s the cornerstone of all music.
In addition, you’ll learn how to read bass ‘tablature’—absolutely essential for working through this program—and finally, to top it off, we’ll play your first song inspired by the classic “Stray Cat Strut” by the Stray Cats.
Let’s go!
