Screwdriver
Summary
This tune is inspired by the jazz standard “Take Five,” by Paul Desmond (and famously played by Dave Brubeck). But unlike that standard which is played with a jazzy swing feel, this tune is performed with a straight, soul-groove type of vibe. One of the key features of this track is that it is written in 5/4 (i.e. five quarter notes per bar) which is an example of an odd time signature.
Along the way, you’ll also learn a great ‘thumb & palm mute’ technique that produces a big, warm, thumpy tone.
We think you’ll love this piece, so grab your bass and check it out!
